A custom kitchen island and illuminated shelving composition crafted from solid chestnut in Deep Heritage finish. Designed as an architectural centrepiece for a residence in Melides, the waterfall island brings sculptural weight, dark tactile texture, and warm contrast to the existing stone island, while the floating shelves introduce layered light and display against the glazed tile backdrop.

More details
The island is built from 45 mm solid chestnut using a waterfall construction, allowing the top and side planes to read as one continuous monolithic volume. Its L-shaped form connects with the existing stone kitchen island, creating a layered composition of wood, stone, and architectural light.
Finished in Deep Heritage matte varnish, the chestnut surface was deeply textured to reveal an aged, tactile grain. Three solid chestnut floating shelves complete the wall composition, with integrated lighting designed in layers: downward light for the work surface and upward light to softly highlight the glazed tile backdrop.
